Geographically Redundant, Fully-Mirrored Network Access Centers Provide Ultimate Protection Against Growing Threat of Cyber-Attack and Outages Caused By Man-Made or Natural Disasters

McLean, VA- June 17, 2010 - iCore Networks, the leading provider of Voice over Private Internet (VoPI) services in the Nation’s Capital, announced today the opening of  its newest Network Operations Center (NOC). The additional NOC has been designed with advanced hardware/software capabilities and geographic data center redundancy to protect against the growing threat of cyber-attacks as well as outages caused by natural and man-made disasters.

“Just over a month ago, as a nation, we held our collective breath when the news broke about the failed terrorist bomb attack in Times Square,” said Stephen Canton, Chairman and CEO of iCore Networks. “If successful, in addition to the catastrophic human toll, such an attack could have seriously disrupted telecommunications and computer networks in the immediate area and possibly beyond.”

Canton also cited recent news stories in both the New York Times and Washington Post warning of the growing threat of cyber-attacks on America’s information infrastructure.  The February 3rd Times article quoted testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee by a top U.S. intelligence official, who predicted that malicious cyber-activity “will” occur at an unprecedented scale with extraordinary sophistication.  On February 18, the Post reported that more than 75,000 computer systems at 2,500 companies in the United States and around the world had been hacked in the largest cyber-attack to date.

The state-of the-art operations centers hosts a fully functional environment consisting of Cisco, BroadSoft and UNIX-based systems monitored 24/7/365 at the facility in McLean, Va. The typical customer installation in iCore’s enhanced disaster prevention and recovery system consists of a primary private circuit connected to one of the two geographically redundant and technologically mirrored Network Access Centers (NACs), with a managed backup circuit hosted by an additional NAC; both of which are equipped with primary and backup data servers. The upgraded hardware, advanced software and true geographic data center redundancy will enable iCore to prepare its customers for the worst by making a detailed disaster recovery plan available to every customer.

“iCore takes these threats seriously and our mission is to keep the network, and our 27,000-plus customers, up and running at all times,” Canton pointed out.  “We are proud to say that our VoPI system is now the most fault tolerant and secure voice and data network available to customers.”
